Technique of the week
on Jul 02 in Blog by Katie
I have a client who loves the Pilates mat repertoire and who believes in it so much, she practices at home. For six months she has been taking 2 private sessions a week and a mat class once a week. She used to feel that her shoulders were narrow and slumped, where as now that feeling has transitioned into a sense of feeling open and lifted. Clothes fit better, bra straps no longer slide off the shoulder and no more pain in her left shoulder. She stands taller.
Today I wanted to inform her mat work and create deeper sensations that she can apply to her mat work. I taught the mat sequence and used the Cadillac to provide support. The aid of the springs helped her to feel more fluid during the movements. For a few examples, I used the roll down bar to support the Roll up which provided the lifting and scooping of the abdominals without gripping or forcing them into action. The tower was the perfect way to enhance the sensation of undulating the spine during the Jackknife. Working out on the equipment is the way to continue to build a better mat workout.
